Cambodia is a country still suffering from widespread poverty which has resulted in a lack of education facilities for many children. Insufficient resources have led to a lack of funding for schools and therefore the burden of providing a decent education often falls to charities and NGOs.
One such charity is the Seametrey Children’s Village which has established a school in Phnom Penh. The brainchild of the inspirational founder Muoy You, Seametrey has helped shape the future of its students in a positive way and currently provides an education for 91 children with ambitious plans to expand. It is a charity which Infinity’s Cambodian office has been happy to support in terms of raising funds and awareness, particularly in regard to their new venture; a crepe and juice bar.
Seametrey is a forward thinking organisation, not reliant solely on donations. It is attached to a guesthouse, You Khin House, which functions to support the development of the school by offering tourists great accommodation and specialised eco-friendly tours for a taste of the ‘real Cambodia’.
You Khin House Creperie and Juice Bar aims to raise revenue which will be pumped back into the school. Locals, tourists and expats in Phnom Penh can enjoy delicious pancakes and fresh juices prepared by the students and faculty, knowing that all the profits are going to a good cause.
The creperie is located within the guesthouse in the Tonle Bassac district of Phnom Penh and we urge residents and visitors to support the business to ensure its success. As a company, we admire the self-help and entrepreneurial spirit that has given birth to the project, which in addition to raising funds, also benefits the students by introducing them to the principles of working and running a business; a valuable educational and life experience. the students and faculty, knowing that all the profits are going to a good cause.
Seametrey Children’s Village has been offering local children of varying economic backgrounds a quality education for many years. The school is an oasis of inspiration and is equipped to provide a well-rounded educational experience. It has a computer lab, library, music room and swimming pool; facilities that most Cambodian children could never normally access.
Paul Dodd, a consultant at Infinity and enthusiastic supporter of Seametrey Children’s Village has a history of raising funds to support their work and is running a sponsored half marathon on December 1st to offer further support. However, for expats in Phnom Penh who don’t fancy long distance running in the Cambodian heat, the easiest, and highly satisfying, way of supporting the charity would be to visit the creperie to enjoy a tasty treat.
The school and You Khin House Creperie and Juice Bar can be found on a quiet street between Norodom Boulevard and Sothearos Street, close to the Russian Embassy and Wat Svay Pope.
