Case Study

Our client wanted to plan for retirement… but had a large shortfall and a loan to pay off first.

Our client was in his early 40s, and was due to get married shortly.  He’s been living in Thailand for a couple of years and planned to stay long term. The clear area of need was for planning for retirement, which he hoped would be in 16 years time… but he had a rather large shortfall. Our fact find also identified a large, but interest-free loan to his parents, which he intended to pay off within the next six months. Other advisers had suggested that he do nothing and get back in touch when his loan was paid off. Our approach was different. We suggested that he started putting away a small amount into a monthly savings plan.

This got him heading in the right direction straightaway and gave us time to get to know each other. A few regular visits later and his plan has been topped up twice. He’s now confident that his financial planning is in good shape and on target for a happy retirement.

Other advisers had suggested that he do nothing until his loan was paid off. Our approach was different.
